El Hombre de Mimbre /The Wicker Man (1973)

Aquí vamos con mi "clásico" de esta semana. Llevaba tiempo queriendo verla, pero la he ido posponiendo una y otra vez.

Here we go with my "classic" of this week. I've been a long time wanting to watch it but I kept postponing it again and again.

Tenemos aquí un título muy interesante e imprescindible para los amantes del terror. El argumento gira en torno a un policía que se desplaza hasta una isla de Escocia (Summerisle) con la intención de investigar la desaparición de una niña. Una vez en la isla, el policía (fervientemente católico) va mostrándose cada vez más afectado y ofendido al descubrir las costumbres paganas de las gentes del lugar.

We have a very interesting film here and compulsory for horror fans. The plot focuses on a policeman who travels to an island in Scotland (Summerisle) trying to investigate the disappearance of a little girl. When he gets to the island, the policeman (fervently catholic) starts feeling more and more affected and offended after discovering the pagan customs of the local people.

Aunque hay momentos bastante cutres, es una cutrez entrañable, cutrez de los 70 que mola. El giro final de la película es maravilloso, y desde que empiezan las celebraciones del "May Day" no pude apartar la vista de la pantalla, encontrándome con algo sorpredente, bello y, a la vez, perturbador.

Even if some moments are pretty lame, it is an adorable lameness, 70's awesome lameness. The plot twist of the movie is amazing and, since the celebrations of "May Day" begin I couldn't take my eyes from the screen, finding something surprising, beautiful and, at the same time, disturbing.

Christopher Lee está genial como Lord Summerisle, una actuación que enamora mucho, mucho. Mención especial al hecho de descubrir que uno de mis sketches favoritos de "The League of Gentlemen" está hecho en homenaje a esta película. "You did it beautifully!" 

Christopher Lee is great as Lord Summerisle, a performance you just fall in love with. I also need to mention the fact of discovering that one of my favourite sketches from "The League of Gentlemen" is a tribute to this movie.   "You did it beautifully!"

Otra cosa que hace que la película perdure en la memoria después de haberla visto son canciones (de tipo folk) como "Gently Johnny" y "Willow's Song".

Folk songs like "Gently Johnny" and "Willow's Song" are other thing the movie has that makes it to stay in your mind after watching it.
