Repaso rápido de lo que llevo este mes. 

Quick review of what I've watch this month.

Capitán América: El Primer Vengador / Captain America: The First Avenger (7) 

Entretenida y con buen ambiente. Me la esperaba bastante peor, pero ha acabado siendo disfrutable. 

Entertaining and with a good atmosphere. I thought it was going to be quite worse, but it turned out to be enjoyable.

The Act of Killing (9)

Un documental del que es difícil encontrar palabras que lo describan. La cara (o más bien caras) del mal expuesta de una forma nunca vista antes. Y es que ya lo dicen, que la realidad siempre acaba siendo más aterradora que la ficción. 

A documentary feature which is hard to describe with words. The face (or faces) of evil exposed in a way never seen before. And it’s true what it’s said, that reality is always far more terrifying than fiction.

Los Vengadores / The Avengers (7)

Otra que también fue entretenida y que además cuenta con las grandes actuaciones de Tom Hiddleston como Loki y Robert Downey Jr. como Iron Man. Es una delicia verlos en pantalla. 

Another one really entertaining and that also has the great performances of Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. It’s delightful watching them on screen.

Iron Man 3 (8) 

Las anteriores de Iron Man están bastante bien, pero la tercera eleva el asunto al siguiente nivel, mostrándonos una nueva faceta de Tony Stark. Ya no sólo es el capullo ricachón al que nada le afecta, sino que ahora, por primera vez, está aterrado ante las circunstancias que le rodean. Eso y un muy buen villano interpretado por Guy Pearce, hacen que la película no sólo sea entretenida, sino que mole un montón. 

The previous Iron Man movies are quite good, but the third one takes the plot to the next level, showing us a new side of Tony Stark. Now he’s not just that wealthy asshole who doesn’t bother that much about things, since he turns out to be really frightened of the circumstances that surround him. That and a very good villain played by Guy Pearce make the movie not just entertaining but awesome.

Thor: El Mundo Oscuro / Thor: The Dark World (7)

Mejor que la primera, pero tampoco sobresaliente. De nuevo, lo mejor de la película es Loki.

Better than the first one, but not outstanding. Again, the best thing in the movie is Loki.

Fruitvale Station (7)

Se hace bastante lenta al principio, pero ya sólo por el escalofriante final (sobretodo sabiendo que pasó de verdad), merece la pena.

It’s really slow at the beginning, but just for the bloodcurdling ending it’s worth it (specially knowing it actually happened).

Nymphomaniac (Vol 1. y Vol. 2) (6 / 5)

La historia en la primera parte es bastante interesante y cargada de poesía, pero en la segunda flojea mucho. Se deja ver, pero no es lo mejor de Lars Von Trier.

The story in the first part is quite interesting and full of poetry, but in the second part it gets worse. Watchable, but far from being the best of Lars Von Trier.

Mud (7)

Buenas interpretaciones  y un magnífico final. Lástima que al principio se haga eterna...

Good performances and a great ending. It’s a pity that the beginning looks never-ending…

Retornados / The Returned (6) 

El punto de partida me gustó muchísimo, pero la trama se desarrolla de una forma un poco estúpida (la escena de la tía hablando a gritos por teléfono en el parking del hospital…madre mía…). 

I absolutely loved the idea, but the plot develops in quite a stupid way (the scene when the girl is shouting on the phone in the hospital parking…my goodness…).

The Innkeepers (6) 

Un poco lo mismo que con Retornados. Me gustó la idea, y Pat Healy y Sarah Paxton (dos a los que ya les he echado el ojo) están geniales. Pero con ese final tan decepcionante no puede conseguir más nota… 

A bit like “The Returned”. I liked the idea and Pat Healy and Sarah Paxton (two actors I’m already keeping in mind) are amazing. But with such a disappointing ending it can’t get a better score…

Rushmore (8)

Divertida comedia de Wes Anderson, con el que me estoy poniendo al día antes de ver “Grand Hotel Budapest”. Jason Schwartzman es genial, por cierto. 

Fun comedy by Wes Anderson. I’m getting to know him better before watching “Grand Hotel Budapest”. By the way, Jason Schwartzman is great. 

Elysium (8)

Me encantó “Distrito 9”, así que había que ver lo nuevo de su director, Neill Blomkamp. El resultado ha sido satisfactorio, aunque no llega a la altura de su anterior película.

I loved “District 9”, so I had to watch the new work from its director, Neill Blomkamp. The result has been satisfactory, but it is as amazing as his previous movie.

Pacifim Rim (7)

Creí  que iba a ser la mierda, pero me ha sorprendido gratamente. Sigue siendo una película de robots gigantes contra monstruos, pero molona.

I thought it was going to be crap but it was a nice surprise. It’s still a movie about giant robots fighting monsters, but it’s a cool one. 

Oldboy (remake) (4)

Lo primero de todo, esto era completamente innecesario. Pero bueno, pensé que haciéndola Spike Lee (responsable de la increíble “La última noche”), sería algo decente. Me equivocaba. Toda la poesía que flotaba en la original de Park Chan-Wook, tirada a la basura, cambios en la historia que son super absurdos y un Samuel L. Jackson que sólo está ahí para decir “mothafucka”.

First of all, this was completely unnecessary. But well, I thought that if Spike Lee (responsible for the incredible “25^th Hour”) was directing it, it would be something decent. I was wrong. All the poetry floating in the original by Park Chan-Wook, thrown into the bin, super absurd changes in the story and a Samuel L. Jackson who is there just to say “mothafucka”. 

Kill Your Darlings (7)

Interesante relato sobre los escritores de la “Beat Generation”, pero que abusa demasiado de las imágenes de estos jóvenes drogándose (digo yo que harían algo más que meterse todo lo que tenían a mano…). Dane Dehaan sigue en su momento de gloria (ya os lo advertí cuando lo vi en “Cruce de Destinos” http://losfotogramasdeldia.blogspot.com.es/2013/09/doble-sesion-con-ryan-gosling-only-god.html) y Michael C. Hall brilla como siempre.

Interesting story about the writers from the “Beat Generation”, but it may use too many images of these young people taking drugs (I mean, they might have done something else than consuming everything they had around…). Dane Dehaan is still in his moment of glory (I already warned you when I saw him in “The Place Beyond the Pines” http://losfotogramasdeldia.blogspot.com.es/2013/09/doble-sesion-con-ryan-gosling-only-god.html) and Michael C. Hall shines as always.

Martha Marcy May Marlene (7)

La historia está bien y la actuación de Elizabeth Olsen es sobresaliente, pero se hace bastante aburrida muchas veces.

The story is good and the acting by Elizabeth Olsen is outstanding, but it gets really boring sometimes. 

Shrooms (5)

El argumento no tiene ni pies ni cabeza (vamos, yo llevo 6 meses viviendo en Irlanda y no me suena que este sea destino turístico por sus setas alucinógenas…). Además el final es muy trillado…Pero bueno, entretiene, hay gore chachi y algunos buenos sustos y, por supuesto, sale Jack Huston (Richard “todopoderoso” Harrow, de Boardwalk Empire).

The plot is completely nonsense (I’ve been living in Ireland for 6 months and I’ve never heard this is a tourist destination for its magic mushrooms…). Also, the ending is too well-known… But well, it’s entertaining, it has cool gore and some good spooky moments, and, of course, Jack Huston is on it (Richard “almighty” Harrow, from Boardwalk Empire).

El Hobbit: La Desolación de Smaug / The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (8)

Le cuesta arrancar bastante y se hace interminable en muchos momentos, pero en cuanto llegan a la montaña y empieza a aparecer Smaug, se convierte en una maravilla. Lo mejor de la película, sin lugar a dudas, es la conversación entre Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) y Bilbo (Martin Freeman). Una pura delicia.

It takes ages to start and it looks never-ending in some momentos, but when they arrive to the mountain and Smaug appears, it becomes a wonder. The best of the movie, without any doubts, is the conversation between Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Bilbo (Martin Freeman). A pure delight.
