Election

Tenía esta película pendiente desde hace tiempo y hoy me he animado a verla. La sorpresa ha sido bastante gratificante y he de decir que "Election" es a la par divertida y digna de reflexión, pero lo más fascinante que hay en ella es, sin lugar a dudas, Reese Whiterspoon. 

I wanted to watch this movie since long ago and today I was finally encouraged to do it. The surprised has been quite gratifying and I must say "Election" is fun and reflection worthy, but the most fascinating thing about it is, without any doubt, Reese Whiterspoon.

 

La verdad es que no es una de mis actrices favoritas, pero aquí lo borda, haciendo suyo cada segundo de la película aunque no esté en pantalla, puesto que TODO gira en torno a Tracy Flick.

Actually she is not one of my favourite actresses, but here she nails it, making hers every second of the movie even when she is not on screen, since everything  revolve around Tracy Flick.

Alexander Payne cada vez me está gustando más (tras haber visto "Nebraska" y "Los Descendientes"), y es que es un director que  coge las historias más cotidianas y normales del mundo, y consigue elevarlas a otro nivel. 

Alexander Payne keeps delighting me more every time (after watching "Nebraska" and "The Descendants"), and he's clearly a director that picks the most ordinary stories and gets to raise them to another level. 

Con "Election" nos encontramos ante las elecciones a delegado/a en un instituto estadounidense y la campaña, ambiciosa en exceso, de una brillante estudiante llamada Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon). A pesar de que en un principio ella es la única interesada en conseguir este cargo, su profesor (interpretado por un genial Matthew Broderick) hace todo lo posible para que otro ocupe el puesto, ya que no le hace mucha gracia la idea de pasar más tiempo con Tracy (causante del despido de su mejor amigo tras tener una aventura con él). A partir de aquí podríamos decir que el remedio acaba siendo peor que la enfermedad.

With "Election" we find ourselves watching the elections for president in an American high school and the campaign, too ambitious, of a brilliant student called Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon). Even if she is the only one interested in getting the position in the first place, her teacher (played by a great Matthew Broderick) does everything that is in his hands to make another student win, since he's not very happy with the idea of spending more time with Tracy (who caused the dismissal of his best friend after having an affair with him). From that moment we could say the cure becomes worse than the disease.
