A Propósito de Schmidt / About Schmidt

Siguiendo con Alexander Payne, después de las geniales "Nebraska" y "Election", he querido ver esta película, que debería haber visto hace tiempo. Se suponía que, como parte de mi reto, esta era la película que podía hacerme llorar esta semana, y ha acabado consiguiendo más que eso, puesto que también me ha hecho reír. 

Keeping up with Alexander Payne, after the great "Nebraska" and "Election", I wanted to watch this movie, which I should have seen long time ago. It was supposed that, as part of my challenge, this was the film that could make me cry this week, and it has achieved more than that, since it also made me laugh.

La historia es la de Warren Schmidt, un hombre que se acaba de jubilar y que, consecuentemente, no sabe muy bien qué hacer con su vida ahora que no trabaja. La interpretación de Jack Nicholson es maravillosa y conmovedora, a la vez que desternillante en muchas ocasiones, como cuando escribe por primera vez al niño que apadrina. 

The story is about Warren Schmidt, a man who just retired and, consequently, he doesn't really know what to do with his life now he's not working anymore. Jack Nicholson's performance is marvelous and moving, but hilarious in many occasions, as when he writes for the first time to the child he sponsors.

Otra que brilla con un papel de lo más interesante, es la siempre genial Kathy Bates. Aunque es una lástima que aparezca más bien poco en la película, cada vez que lo hace es para obsequiarnos con una gran escena.

Another one who shines with a very interesting role is Kathy Bates, brilliant as always. Even of it's a pity that she doesn't appear that much in the movie, every time she shows up she rewards us with a great scene.

Una vez más, Payne nos da una historia en la que vemos temas como el adulterio y la crisis de edad, así como planos con unos paisajes simples pero espectaculares y una música que se amolda perfectamente en cada momento. La verdad es que me estoy aficionando mucho a este señor y tendré que ver "Entre Copas", a ver si es tan buena como las demás. 

Once more, Payne gives us a story that shows themes as adultery and age crisis, also shots of simple but spectacular beauty and music that fits perfectly at every moment. To be honest, I'm becoming quite a fan of this man and I'll have to watch "Sideways" to see if it's as good as the others.
